Dr. Santanu Manna, Associate Professor at IIT Indore, will be visiting our department from September 11–14, 2026. During his visit, he will interact with the faculty members and research scholars of the department. As part of his visit, he will be delivering a talk. The details of the talk are as follows:
Title: Asymptotic analysis of elastic wave propagation

Abstract: Asymptotic analysis provides an effective mathematical framework for obtaining approximate solutions to complex wave propagation problems and for extracting essential characteristics of wave fields. In particular, it offers a systematic approach for analysing Rayleigh-wave propagation and identifying key features such as wave speed, dispersion, attenuation, and localization in appropriate asymptotic regimes. This talk focuses initially on the development of an asymptotic description of the Rayleigh-wave field in a homogeneous elastic medium. The methodology will subsequently be extended to investigate Rayleigh-wave propagation in more complex models incorporating different forms of nonlocal elasticity and metasurface effects. The influence of material and structural parameters on the wave characteristics will be examined. Finally, the obtained results will be validated and compared through analytical, asymptotic, and numerical approaches, providing a comprehensive understanding of elastic surface-wave propagation.
