Title of the talk: Tensor-based low-rank approximations under Hadamard product
Speaker: Prof. Jajati Keshari Sahoo, Professor, BITS Pilani (Goa campus)
Abstract: In this talk, we introduce a novel Hadamard product-based tensor multiplication approach and develop fundamental tensor decomposition methodologies, including tensor Singular Value Decomposition and tensor QR decomposition. Then, we propose a class of tensor-based Hadamard decomposition algorithms, to address the significant challenge of processing high-dimensional structured data. Theoretical developments have been empirically validated through extensive experimental evaluations across diverse datasets, including synthetic matrices, real-world numerical data, natural image collections, and video sequence repositories. Our comprehensive results demonstrate the substantial practical utility of Hadamard-based tensor methods in large-scale data compression and analytical applications.

About the Speaker:
Prof. Jajati Keshari Sahoo is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus, with over 16 years of academic experience. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from IIT Madras in 2010, with a thesis titled Regularization Techniques in Learning Theory, under the supervision of Prof. Arindama Singh. His research interests include Numerical Linear Algebra, Tensor Algebra and Multilinear Systems, and Machine Learning Applications. He has also been actively involved in research collaborations and the supervision of doctoral scholars. In addition to his teaching and research contributions, Prof. Sahoo served as the Head of the Department of Mathematics at BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus from 2019 to 2024.
