Title: Spectral Geometry of the Neumann Problem
Speaker: Dr. Sheela Verma, Assistant Professor, IIT (BHU) Varanasi
Date: 20 08.2026(Thursday)
Room No: LT2.11 (Dept. of Math. Sc.)
Abstract: This talk concerns the Neumann eigenvalue problem for the Laplace operator on a bounded domain Ω with Lipschitz boundary ∂Ω. We will begin by introducing the weak formulation and variational characterization of the problem, −∆u = μu in Ω, ∂u/∂n = 0 on ∂Ω, and discuss the spectral properties of the Neumann Laplacian. Next, we will explore domain-monotonicity properties for Neumann eigenvalues. Finally, we will talk about the classical Szegő-Weinberger inequality and some of its recent generalizations.
