Message
Dear All,

It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that one of our illustrious alumni Mr. Vani Dantam is visiting the campus between Nov 29 to Dec 4, 2024. Mr. Vani Dantam is a global energy executive with 40+ years of experience in Energy and Transportation industries. He has long standing experience in  working for world’s largest companies such as GM and also for many startups in energy technologies. During his trip, he has kindly agreed to deliver talks on Dec. 2nd and 3rd as per the following details:

Talk on Dec. 2, 2024
Title: Evolution of Energy Technologies (Generation/Storage/Management)
Date and Time: Dec.2, 2024, 11:00 AM
Venue: Top Floor Conference Hall, Department of Electrical Engineering

Abstract: Batteries are electrochemical energy storage devices.  Some of them are rechargeable and some are not.  Since 1859, when Gaston Plante – the French scientist discovered Lead acid batteries and 1912, when Gilbert Newton Lewis – the American scientist discovered Lithium ion batteries – these energy storage devices have evolved into irreplaceable parts of humanity’s pursuit of sustainable – clean energy technologies with shrinking carbon footprint in transportation, grid/utility/renewable and defense applications.  We will discuss how the lithium ion battery technology has changed over the past 25 years, the limitations of the current battery chemistries from the product design and capabilities and also from the manufacturing requirements and capabilities.  We will examine where the industry is heading and what is at stake for us and what are some of the new chemistries, manufacturing technologies and applications.

Talk on Dec 3, 2024
Title: STARTUPS – CHALLENGES & PITFALLS
Date and Time: Dec 3, 2024, 11:00 AM
Venue: Top Floor Conference Hall, Department of Electrical Engineering

Abstract:   Defining the characteristics of a startup is a very important first step along with the goals and objectives. This is followed by understanding what resources are needed in terms of information, human resources, capital and time to establish a productive path towards success. Information gathering is very critical – it must be the right information at the right stages. Human resources can be divided into different groups and the same holds true for capital also. As we go through the evolution – we need to understand the customer adaption of the services/products we are offering, what our value proposition is, its marketability, our competition, regulatory requirements and constraints, whether we have the right team culture to grow, what our hurdles/challenges are and what our long
term objectives are. We need to understand what the technology and resource allocation trends are in our field of operation and be prepared for these trends. We
would also want to be part of the right global network and communities that operate in our field of work. Finally, we need to have the right set of analytics and metrics to evaluate our performance on an ongoing basis and have the resources in place to scale up or down, or pivot or dissolve – depending on the situation and requirements.

You are requested to kindly attend the talks to be given by Mr. Vani Dantam.  A short biography of Mr. Vani is attached with this email.

Kind regards,
